ATYPICAL DEPRESSION

Abstract
It has been estimated that one quarter of patient treated with antidepressants fail to reach a premorbid level of funtioning. These patients have been labelled "treatment-resistant" or "treatment-refratory."
There is a depressive subtype that differs from the typical tricyclic antidepressant(TCA) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) -responsive endogenous depression.
Patients with atypical depression that is characterized by the symptoms of mood reactivity, hypersomnia, leaden paralysis, hyperphagia, pathologic sensitivity to interpersonal rejection and prominent anxiety may show a preferential response to monoamine oxidase inhibitors. We experienced a case of atypical depression and reported it with the literature review.
